Platinum Group Metals will be mined and produced at the Zijin Garatau Platinum Mine.
Currently Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) are utilized in a number of industrial processes, technologies and commercial applications. Their unique chemical and physical properties, make them an excellent raw material, catalyst, or ingredient for manufacturing processes.
The demand for autocatalytic converters in the automotive industry is the primary consumption factor for platinum, palladium, and rhodium. Other important uses for PGMs are:
- Jewellery (Pt and Pd)
- Industrial, e.g., dental, glass, medical, chemical, fuel cell technology (Pt, Pd, Rh)
- Investment (Pt and Pd)
- Electronic and Electrochemical (Pd, Rh, Ru and Ir).
