GARATAU Three schools surrounding Nkwe Platinum’s Garatau Mine have become the latest recipients of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) equipment that will ensure effective teaching and learning.
The donations were made on November 21 and 22, 2023 by the representatives from Nkwe Platinum’s Garatau Mine.
The lucky schools to have benefited from the donations are Ratau Primary School (Ga Ratau Village) Molaka Primary School (Maandagshoek), and Lobamba Combined School (Hoepakrantz).
At all the three schools, the equipment was received by the principals as well as the School Management Team (SMT).
At Molaka, the pupils rendered plays such as poems and reading competitions to entertain the guests.
The equipment, donated by the mine, will assist the Limpopo Department of Education in its drive to ensure that more learners in the province have access to a wealth of information relating to their curriculum needs through the use of ICT.
The schools were given overhead data projectors, projector screens, laptops, and mouse.
Nkwe Platinum’s Elias Malele said they will continue to support initiatives that seek to advance education. “We believe in the importance of making a difference in the communities which we operate in and this
Initiative also gives us an opportunity to strengthen the relationship with our key stakeholders.
“We handed a single projector and projector screen, four laptops and mouse at each school. This is a continuation from our previous educational projects .We will do anything in our powers to improve education locally.
“All the educational equipment donated will assist local pupils; they are our future leaders and our future generation. We want to see future engineers, general managers and architects coming from this area,” he added. Speaking on behalf of the School management team at Ratau, educator China Mokabane, praised the mine for giving them the “tools” to do their work efficiently. “We will cherish them, and take good care of this equipment. This will benefit our school as well as pupils.” Donald Mohlala, the school principal at Molaka, thanked Nkwe Platinum for the donations. “We would like to thank you for the gifts. It is surely going to make a difference in their lives. We thank you for working with us in building the future of the learners and our school,” he said.
